Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #52

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.

Broad-Ripple Ind
May 4 - 1897

Be it known that on the 3rd day of May 1897 The Citizens Party and the Independant party voted the above named tickets, which resulted in the following to wit:

Election:
Boards Certificate of Election.
The undersigned Milton R. Likins as inspector, and J.H. Campbell and H.C. Gresh as Judges and C.S. Kirk and Edgar Watts as Clerks of an election held in the town of Broad-Ripple, Marion CO. Indiana. On the 3rd day of May 1897 for the purpose of electing officers for said town hereby certify as the results of the canvass of the votes.
That Neiles B.S. Florander having received the highest number of votes for town Trustee of the first district.
and was declared duly elected the term of two years from the 10 day of May 1897
James H. Brady and Jesse D. Day each recieved 50 votes which resulted in no election and Lot was cast which resulted in the election of James H. Brady for town Clerk for the term of one year from the 10 day of May 1897
Charles W. Silvy having recieved the highest of votes cast for Treasurer, was declared duly elected Treasurer of said town for 1 year from the 10 day of May 1897
Lee Frank Pearce having recieved the highest of votes cast for Marshall, was declared duly elected Marshall of said town for the term of one year from the 10 day of May 1897
On witness [unreadable word] the undersigned members of the Election Board of said Town of Broad Ripple and Clerks of said Board of Election have subscribed their names hereto this 3rd day of May 1897
