Feb BRVA Zoning Meeting
by Alan Hague
posted: Mar. 10, 2006

Attendance was light at the February Broad Ripple Village Association (BRVA) committee meeting. This may have been because the meeting was moved to Monday night since the Broad Ripple town hall meeting was held on the regular meeting night of Tuesday.
There were four petitions on the agenda. The first was petition 2005-ZON-220 for property located at 6195 Ralston Avenue. A number of remonstrators showed up, but the petitioner did not. His absence might have been due to the change of meeting day.
The second petition was presented by Lou Kinkaid for the property located at 6420 Cornell Avenue. La Piedad moved temporarily to this address while their permanent location is being remodeled; 6420 will then house Hogshead BBQ. The zoning variance requested was for an outdoor deck and too few parking spaces. Lou has kept most of the existing old house intact, remodeling the interior to accept the restaurant. "We believe in reusing the old buildings [in Broad Ripple] to keep the flavor and character of the Village," said Lou. "Most of these are built strong - with real 2 by 4s."
The third petition was for a Rock Lobster (820 Broad Ripple Avenue) expansion into the back portion of the vacant Chi-Dogs site, located at 818 Broad Ripple Avenue. Rob Sabatini, owner of several Broad Ripple establishments including The Broad Ripple Seafood Shack, proposed using the front third for a small retail shop and the back remainder for the expansion of the bar.
The last petition, 2006-DV3-002, was presented by Nancy Long and Tish Nye of the Broad Ripple Chase Bank, which is located at 706 Broad Ripple Avenue. The variance is needed so that Chase can replace the Bank One sign with a Chase pylon sign that is similar to those at 86th and College and at 56th and Illinois.
The next meeting of the BRVA zoning committee is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28, at 7 P.M. The meetings are held at the Broad Ripple United Methodist Church, which is located at 61st and Guilford Avenue, and are open to the public.
