Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen

June is a great month. The kids get out of school and start their lazy days of summer, families plan their vacation get-aways, and brides walk down the aisle to start their lives anew as married women. What a great month for stepping out of our normal day to day routines.
My wife and I recently attended the wedding of a good friend, and I have to admit it was nice sitting and watching the event unfold instead of being the one who had the responsibility of doing my best to ensure the couple had a great ceremony. As I listened to the vows this couple had written for each other, I silently prayed that these vows would indeed sustain them over the long haul. With divorce rates so high in this country I have to wonder what definition of love people are living their lives by these days.
Is love so fragile that we lose site of it so easily? My own thought is that most people miss out on reaching that level of deeper love that is only obtained through the test of time and trials. That kind of love cannot be explained, cannot be taught, nor can it be obtained easily. So I say a prayer for all those walking down the aisle this June, and for all those who are clinging to the vows they made years ago. It's a prayer of endurance, growth together, and the experience of a love that cannot be put into words.
