Poetic Thoughts - Up - by C.W. Pruitt II
posted: Jun. 10, 2005

My dear friend Rich Jenks left this plane of existence four years ago to meet his maker. Though only 20, he was wise beyond his years. This poem is about his religion, which he called 'Up':
Up
In Memory of Rich Jenks
When I was 29
and Rich was 17,
I sought his counsel.
I was going through
great personal turmoil
and he was a model
of strength and stability.
So I asked,
"How do you do it?"
He said, "I know
that people call it
different things, but
I call it 'Up.'"
He explained that
anytime he needed
strength, he called
on the power above him.
Now that Rich
has become part
of 'Up'
it is especially easy for me
to reach
in that direction.
