Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #24

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.
In the last installment: Board passes ordinance for horses in the town.
Here is the twenty-fourth installment:

Adopted Aug 8 1894

Ordinance No 6

An ordinance to compell owners of Stand on the streets and alleys of the town of Broad Ripple Marion County, State of Indiana to pay a license fee
Section I
Be it ordained by the Board of Trustees of the town of Broad Ripple Marion County, State of Indiana that any person wishing to barter or sell goods or merchandise of any kind from a wagon or stand stationed in the public streets or alleys shall before he is alowed to sell or barter any goods pay to the Marshal of this town the sum of $1.00 per day for such privilage
Section II
Any person violating this ordinance shall upon conviction be fined not over $5.00 to be paid into the town Treasury
Section III
Whereas an emergency exists for the immediate taking effect of this ordinance thirefore the same shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
