Random Rippling - Broad Ripple Avenue project DPW update
posted: May 27, 2004
The next phase of the Broad Ripple Avenue project is in the design process. Back in March of 2003 the driving lanes were reduced to one in each direction, with left-turn lanes at each intersection. The crosswalks were re-configured and a median area was painted on the road surface.
According to Department of Public Works Administrator, Transportation Services, Larry Jones, "The next phase of the project is about half way through the process. This project uses Federally funded dollars and we have to follow the state review process."
Once the designs are complete and they have passed the review process, DPW will hold additional public meetings to disseminate their plans and get public feedback. These meetings could happen as early as Fall 2004.
While the traffic often backs up due to fewer lanes and shorter light cycles, most agree that the avenue is a safer place.
