Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #261

This historic serial has run on and off in the last 22 years of the Broad Ripple Gazette. The intention is to share the history of Broad Ripple, help people find their ancestors in the text, and to complete the transcriptions of these important early documents.
The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. I will try to include street name changes, such as: Shelby Street became 63rd, then Broad Ripple Avenue, Morgan Street is now Guilford, North is now 64th, Hancock is now Westfield, Light Ave is College. Broad Ripple Town Minutes - Book 2 - Pages 109 & 110
Health Officer makes recommendations [but your editor can't figure them out!]
The Board of Trustees of the Town of Broad Ripple met in regular session Tuesday evening, March 7, 1911, all members being present.
Minutes of previous. Regular and special meetings were read and approved.
Health Officer submitted report and draft of an ordinance in accordance with the recommendations of the State Board of Health.
The ordinance was passed upon its readings, the title of which is - An ordinance protecting the Health: Defining the duties of the Town Health Officer and Town Marshall, ________ the ______ of nuisances and prescribing (?) penalties. An emergency. Was declared. And said ordinance was in full force and effect from and after its passage.
A resolution was introduced. And properly passed entitled - "A resolution regulating the license fee for the sale of intoxicating liquors at retail in the town of Broad Ripple, Marion County, Indiana, under the acts of the General Assembly of 1911, and declaring an emergency.
After its passage, said resolution was declared to be in full force in effect.

Improvement Resolution #2 of 1911 was introduced and passed upon 1st and 2nd reading.
Providing for the further improvement of Hamilton Street from Shelby St to 16th Street, in the town of Broad Ripple, Marion County, Indiana, and declaring an emergency, said improvement to consist of a concrete sidewalk and curb from 63rd to 60th Street on east side of Hamilton, and same on West side from 62nd St. to 60th St - also grading the roadway.
Was declared in full force and effect from and after its passage.
[margin] Imp. Res. No #3-1911
A resolution was introduced, passed on first and second reading,- providing for the improvement of Canal Avenue from Morgan Street to College Avenue in the town of Broad Ripple, Marion County, Indiana, and declaring an emergency, said improvement to consist of grading the roadway and constructing a concrete curb on the north side of the street and a concrete curb and walk on the South side of the street, and by improving the approach to the South end of the bridge over the canal at Morgan Street.
Resolution was declared in full force and effect from and after its passage.
Bills were allowed amounting to $122.08.
No further business coming before the board they stood adjourned.

All members being present. Minutes of previous regular meeting were read and approved.
Motion carried to instruct the Town Clerk to notify the Union Traction Co to place a drain under their tracks at ___ Shelby St and College Ave.
Bills were allowed amounting to $54.71.
No further business coming before the board they stood adjourned.
