City of Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development Seeks Request for Proposals for Former Indianapolis Fire Department Station #32 Site
posted: Jul. 30, 2026

The Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to preserve and repurpose the former Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) Station #32 site for an Urban Mixed-Use development. The property, located in the heart of Broad Ripple Village, is steps away from both Broad Ripple Avenue and the Monon Trail.
Constructed in 1922 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the site represents an opportunity to re-envision a local landmark that has been in the neighborhood for over a century. The 0.5-acre parcel of land includes a parking lot and the building that served as IFD Station #32.
Responses should propose adaptive reuse of the existing structure that is complementary and harmonious with character of the neighborhood. Pedestrian-oriented development that serves both adjacent neighborhoods and the broader Indianapolis community is encouraged for this area. Where possible, sidewalks and other pedestrian spaces should be activated as places to gather or otherwise spend time.
Interested organizations are encouraged to review the full RFP materials on the city's "Find Bid Opportunities" webpage (https://www.indy.gov/workflow/find-bid-opportunities). Questions may be directed to piers.kirby@indy.gov no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. RFP responses should be submitted electronically to piers.kirby@indy.gov no later than 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026.
DMD encourages interested respondents to request a one-hour pre-submittal meeting with city staff to discuss their concepts and alignment with the city's desired use of the site by October 1. Additionally, walkthroughs of the IFD 32 building will be held on August 10, August 31 and September 21.
The RFP number is RFP-13DMD-2026-1.
