Random Rippling - BRG Newspapers Donated
posted: Jan. 22, 2026
I apologize for waiting so long for this announcement!
In 2024 we donated an entire 16-volume collection of
Broad Ripple Gazette, from May 2004 through December 2019, to the Indianapolis Public Library's
Nina Mason Pulliam Indianapolis Special Collections Room (ISCR). Thanks go out to BRG reader Tom Probasco for setting it up and to Montoya Barker, Special Collections Librarian, for accepting the newspapers and giving me a great tour of the ISCR.
The ISCR Archives Room is located on the sixth floor of the Central Library, 40 E. Saint Clair Street. Access to the Archives Room and to items in the collection is available by request.
Collections include high school yearbooks, Indianapolis authors (including Broad Ripple's own Dan Wakefield), and local menus and cookbooks. Your editor, being a letterpress print shop owner, is especially interested in the amazing type foundry catalog collection. Montoya Barker also let me hold an original Babylonian tablet from 2350 B.C. and I was able to leaf through an original Shakespeare folio from 1632.
Thanks to The Indianapolis Public Library for helping to preserve a complete set of paper Broad Ripple Gazettes. The set includes issue number 1 of which there is only one other known copy.
