Random Rippling - Ragtime presentation at IHMP

The
Indiana Music History Project (IMHP) hosted a talk and concert by local jazz artist
Monika Herzig on January 19. There were around 40 in attendance at the event in the Indiana Music History Lounge at Flanner Buchanan, 1305 Broad Ripple Avenue [H10 on
map].
Herzig explained that she has the opportunity to present
Monika Herzig: The Hidden Figures of Ragtime: A Case Study of Culture and Society in Indianapolis, 1890-1920 at Lincoln Center in New York on January 28, as part of the
Forging an American Musical Identity (FAMI) Conference.
She then presented the history and Ragtime music of Indianapolis composers May Frances Aufderheide and Julia Lee Niebergall. Several rags from the 1890s were performed, such as Maple Leaf Rag (Joplin), The Thriller (Aufderheide) and Dusty (Aufderheide).
On January 30 and 31 the
Constellation playhouse in Bloomington, Indiana, will hold two release shows for Herzig's upcoming album
Transparent.
