The Indianapolis Public Library to Host Free Legal Clinic Offering Expungement, Eviction Sealing, and Tax Help
posted: Jul. 17, 2025
Individuals seeking free legal assistance are invited to Central Library on Tuesday, July 29, from 3-7 p.m. for a Free Legal Clinic provided in partnership with Indiana Legal Services (ILS) and the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic (NCLC).
Legal staff from both organizations will be on-site to provide free, professional services for criminal record expungement and eviction sealing to qualifying individuals. Attendees must meet income requirements to receive assistance with these matters, which will be conducted in meeting rooms at Central Library.
In addition, attorneys will offer low-income taxpayer assistance on a first-come, first-served basis near the Riley Room. Tax consultations are free and open to all attendees, regardless of income, and do not require an appointment.
"This clinic is one of many examples of how the Library is truly a community hub where people can find support, guidance, and real solutions to life's challenges, allowing us to champion equitable access to knowledge and resources for all," said Gregory Hill, CEO of The Indianapolis Public Library. "Our partnerships with Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic and Indiana Legal Services, Inc. allow us to connect our community with trusted legal help and resources they may not otherwise be able to access."
The Library's on-staff social work team will be present at the event, working at tables near the Riley Room to provide information and consultations on a range of topics, including housing, education, health, and food assistance.
If you are in need of transportation to the Free Legal Clinic, a limited number of free bus passes are available. Please call 317-275-4476 and leave a voice message. A Library staff member will return your call as soon as possible. Transportation is not guaranteed.
