Nora Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library to Celebrate Reopening on May 3
posted: May 01, 2025

The Nora Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library will celebrate its recent reopening on Saturday, May 3 at 10 a.m., following a period of extended renovations.
The celebration will feature speeches, performances, and activities. Highlights include a jazz performance by saxophonist Guy Holbert, an appearance by the Circle City Ghostbusters, as well as face painting and balloon animals. In addition, a tree will be planted to commemorate the occasion.
"With these renovations, we've created a modern, sustainable, and inclusive space that will inspire a sense of belonging and a place to pursue lifelong learning for everyone who walks through our doors," said Gregory Hill, CEO of The Indianapolis Public Library. "This is part of fulfilling our mission of delivering world-class service and championing equitable access, knowledge, and resources for all."
Closed for renovations since December 10, 2023, the updated Nora Branch boasts several new features, including:
  • A refreshed entrance and a convenient drive-up return.
  • Updated restrooms and enhanced mechanical and lighting systems.
  • Group study and tutoring rooms.
  • A renovated community room with a capacity of 60 people.
  • A comfort room located near the children's area.
  • Increased access to outlets for device charging.
Additionally, the branch is pursuing LEEDv4 Silver Certification, reflecting its commitment to energy efficiency and resource conservation.
"The Nora community is at the heart of everything we do, and this renovation reflects our commitment to providing them with a space that is both welcoming and innovative," said Josh Crain, Branch Manager for Nora. "I'm excited to see how our patrons will use this updated branch to connect, learn, and grow."
The renovation was guided by community input collected during a series of meetings and surveys in early 2023.
These sessions, led by architects and designers from Luminaut and Four Point Design in partnership with Library representatives, ensured the design would reflect local needs and priorities.
The $2,250,000 project was funded by bonds approved by the Indianapolis City-County Council, with no increase to the Library's current debt service tax rate.
