The Indianapolis Public Library's popular Seed Library is back, providing free vegetable, herb, and flower seeds at all branch locations. From March through September 2025, community members can pick up seeds to start or expand their gardens. The Seed Library is designed to promote food equity while embracing diverse diets and cooking styles, ensuring greater access to fresh, homegrown ingredients.

"The Seed Library is a great resource for Indianapolis residents who want to try their hand at gardening, whether they have a backyard or just a small space for container plants," said Jill Edwards, adult programming specialist at The Indianapolis Public Library. "Many people are wanting to try their hand at gardening, whether as a hobby or to save on their grocery bill. This service gives those who visit the branches a free and easy way to do exactly that, and we're glad that it has spread out to the rest of the branches."

The Seed Library began in 2014 at the Glendale branch and has now spread to all 25 library branches and the Bookmobile. Each branch location also offers a plethora of gardening education programs such as workshops, seed calendars, and story times that aid the Indianapolis gardening community.
