Letters to the Editor - Use Of Salt On Monon Trail
posted: Dec. 19, 2024
Note to our readers: Letters to the Editor are the opinions of our readers and not necessarily those of this paper.
On December 10 at around 2pm, DPW put salt on the Monon Trail (including the pedestrian bridge over the White River) in anticipation of a snow storm that never materialized.
Temps dropped to 15 degrees that night and salt does not work when it is that cold.
Our trees and plants (much less the White River) does not appreciate the thick coating of salt by DPW which washes off in the rain.
We should tell DPW and the City:
- Do not pre-salt the Monon Trail in anticipation of a storm
- Do not put salt on the Monon Trail at anytime
- Plow the Monon Trail or use sand instead of salt.
