Random Historic Photo - Looking down BR Ave
posted: Oct. 17, 2024

This is a photo of the northeast corner of Broad Ripple Avenue and College Avenue around 1952. This picture was recently reexamined because I was conducting an interview with someone whose parents lived in the house on the right.
This shows when "Kick" Frazier's Shell Station was on the corner. Long-time readers may remember the stories about Kick written by our history columnist Paul Walker. In later years the Shell station moved across the canal. Then, in 2014, it was razed for the Fresh Thyme Farmers Market and The Coil apartments.
Next to Frazier Shell was Fletcher Trust. My grandmother Helen Dawson Hague worked there. It became American Fletcher, then Bank One, then Chase (now vacant).
Next on the right was Dependable Cleaners, Helvin January CPA, and United Repair Service weavers. Long-time readers may also remember when United Repair was later across the street for decades.
