Smash a Pumpkin to Help Kids Succeed
posted: Oct. 03, 2024
Get up on a lift or grab a mallet. By smashing pumpkins, you'll help students in the Broad Ripple area get the tools and programs they need-like technology aids, art supplies, science materials, math tools, and robotics resources.
Pumpkin smashing is just part of the family-friendly fall festival hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Broad Ripple from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, at Half Liter Beer & BBQ Hall.
Activities for kids include painting pumpkins, crafts, and games. Everyone is encouraged to dress in their most creative outfits for the children's parade!
Half Liter Beer & BBQ Hall is donating a portion of food sales during the event to Kiwanis Club of Broad Ripple. The Club supports STEAM projects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) in Midtown Indy schools.
"Strong schools make strong communities, and this is a fun and easy way to give our schools a boost," said Annmarie Robertson, Pumpkin Smash chair. "There is no charge to attend the event, and, in addition to pumpkin smashing and children's activities, we'll have live music by Joe Hart, a Silly Safari animal show, and a festive fall atmosphere. Green With Indy will again provide composting for the pumpkin debris-a perfect example of science at work!"
An online auction of premium items will raise additional funds so the Club can expand the service it provides to the Broad Ripple area, Auction items include golf packages, gift cards to area businesses, a wine basket, and hotel stays. Bidding opens October 15 on the Club's website,
www.brkc.org, and bids are accepted until 11:59 p.m. on October 20.
"Smash some pumpkins with us at Half Liter on October 20th!! It's a great way for kids AND adults to relax, blow off some steam, AND support school STEAM programs!"
