Query Corner - Follow-up: Before Walgreens?
posted: Sept. 19, 2024
We received quite a few reader responses to our recent Query Corner about the southeast corner of 62nd and Keystone Avenue (see below).
Linda Hartman replied that there was an Amoco gas station there
Mike Perkins, librarian at Central Library, sent in an old ad showing that Taco Bell was there (this was after the gas station)
Michael O'Connor and Susan Neal also said it was a Taco Bell before Walgreens.
Then, I did a search for Taco Bell in my photos, and look what I found! The old Taco Bell across from Hedlund's back in 2000. There appears to be a pile of dirt to the south of it. I wonder of they were digging for the new Walgreens?
Do any readers remember what was torn down around 2001 to build the Walgreens at Glendale, on the southeast corner of 62nd and Keystone?
Oddly, the Indianapolis City Directories from that time do not seem to list that address.
Here is an aerial from the City of Indianapolis of the building. It appears to have a drive through.

A few years before, there is also something closer to Glendale, that I kind of remember as a bank drive through.

The aerials from the 1970s show what appears to be a gas station on that site.
