posted: Oct. 05, 2023
The house where Janet Flanner grew up recently had a dedication ceremony for a marker installed to preserve the memory of the famed writer. Janet was raised at 4061 N. Illinois Street and attended the Tudor Hall School for Girls. She went on to be the first cinema critic for the Indianapolis Star and later the Paris correspondent for The New Yorker magazine. Bruce Buchanan, of Flanner Buchanan, welcomed guests and introduced speakers Casey Pfeiffer, historical marker program director for the Indiana State Library, and historian Ray Boomhower. A reception was held in the house after the historic marker unveiling.
