This historic ad from 1966 is for United Repair Service that was located at 821 Broad Ripple Avenue [H4 on map]. The clothing repair shop was owned by Erwin Dollinger who came over from Germany in 1956. Erwin had been a tailor at Blocks and Ayres before buying the shop from a lady who had it at 712 Broad Ripple Avenue, probably in a house, about where BMO Harris Bank is today.

His son, Michael, has run Smoking Iron Alterations, 6503 Ferguson Street [C4 on map], in Broad Ripple for many years. Here is a story we did on Smoking Iron back in 2011.

In the 1970s, Erwin sold the United Repair Service to John Anagnostou. It closed when John retired in 2016.
