There were around 30 in attendance at the February 23, 2023, public meeting of the Broad Ripple Village Association [BRVA] Land Use and Development committee that was held in the basement of Northminster Presbyterian Church, 1660 Kessler Boulevard.
The BRVA Land Use committee
There was one item on the agenda, in bold below.
6144 North College Avenue (Air-Tan Broad Ripple) Angela Alney, owner of Air-Tan, will be appearing on behalf of the petition filed for a variance of use of the Consolidated Zoning and Subdivision Ordinance to provide for the operation of a beauty salon (not permitted) at 6144 North College Avenue. Case #: 2023-UV1-005, Hearing Date: March 7th, 2023
This request is for a variance of zoning standards to allow Air-Tan to move into 6144 N. College Avenue that is currently zoning residential (D-4). The previous occupant of the building was Ameriprise Financial, likely also there on a variance. The committee asked why the petitioner is not rezoning. The answer was that the city staff recommended a variance instead of rezoning.
Air-Tan has been across the street at 6249 N. College (south of the Vogue) for about 20 years. The owner is buying a building and moving to invest in the community.
The committee voted unanimously to support this petition.
The next public meeting of the committee is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 6pm, at Northminster Presbyterian Church.
