Random Historic Photo - 52nd & College in 1958
posted: Feb. 09, 2023
This photo from ACR Appliance owner Don Albershardt was taken northeast of the 52nd and College Avenue intersection, looking to the southwest. It was taken to document the purchase of a new 1958 Plymouth, but as often happens in an old photo, it captures the surroundings at the same time.
In the background is a bakery, a market, the Red Key Tavern, and a hardware store with a Pittsburgh Paints sign.
According to the city directory at this time the following stores were there:
- 5162 Rapistan of Ind Inc conveyors
- 5164 Pastry Pantry Bakery
- 5168 Blake's Friendly Family Food Mkt
- 5170 Red Key Tavern
- 5172 Fifty Second & College Hdw
