Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #176

I feel these next few issues are going to be quite repetitive. They are concerning several street improvements, but I am trying to preserve the minutes so will be including them as they are written. -Alan
This historic serial has run on and off in the last 18 years of the Broad Ripple Gazette. The intention is to share the history of Broad Ripple, help people find their ancestors in the text, and to complete the transcriptions of these important early documents.
The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. I will try to include street name changes, such as: Morgan Street is now Guilford, North is now 64th, Hancock is now Westfield. Broad Ripple, Ind
Nov. 3rd, 1904
Board met in special session all members being present and passed ordinance fixing and establishing grade on Shelby Street in Town of Broad Ripple which is as follows
An ordinance fixing and establishing grade of Shelby Street (BR Ave today) in the Town of Broad Ripple Marion County State of Indiana from the west line of the first street east (would have been Hamilton Street in 1904, Winthrop today) of Morgan St (Guilford today) to the east line of Light Avenue (College Ave today) in said town, and declaring an emergency.
Be it ordained by the Board of Trustees of the Town of Broad Ripple, Marion County, State of Indiana, and that the grade of Shelby Street in the Town of Broad Ripple, Indiana, from the west line of the first street east of Morgan Street to the east line on Light Avenue, in said town, be and the same is hereby fixed and established upon the following grade to wit: Beginning at the west line of the first street east of Morgan Street in said town of Broad Ripple, Indiana, with a cut of one foot and running west on a descending grade of fifty two one hundredths (52/100) of a foot per hundred feet, for three hundred feet or the east line of Morgan Street, hence west with a fall of six tenths (6/10) of a foot to the west side of Morgan Street, hence west on a descending grade of twenty six one hundredths (26/100) of a foot per hundred feet for (960) feet or the east line of Light Avenue.
Dec. 2nd
Where as an emergency exists for the immediate taking effect of this ordinance, therefore, the same shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
