Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired to Host Track and Field Conference Championship from Sept. 30-Oct. 1
posted: Sept. 29, 2022

From Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2022, the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI) will welcome 11 schools from as far as South Dakota to its campus for the 2022 North Central Association of Schools for the Blind (NCASB) Track and Field Conference Championship. The boys and girls track and field teams will compete in more than 60 solo and tandem events across three visual classifications (Class A - totally blind; Class B - visual acuity of no better than 20/400 in the better eye after correction and/or no better than five degrees of visual field; Class C - visual acuity better than 20/400 in the better eye after correction and/or six degrees or better of visual field). Events will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 and 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1.
"We are excited to host the annual track and field conference at ISBVI," says ISBVI superintendent Jim Durst. "Our students are very competitive and can be highly successful at anything they choose to participate in if given appropriate accommodations. Track and field is one such example of the various competitive sport opportunities afforded our students."
Following the two-day competition, all the participating schools will also take part in a social, giving the athletes a chance to unwind while growing closer to blind and visually impaired athletes from the 11 visiting schools.
"The students from ISBVI, and students from schools for the blind around the Midwest, will show off their talents and athleticism, as they strive to bring the Conference Championship Trophy home to their school," Durst says. "While the event will bring out the competitive spirt in the students, it is also a wonderful time to visit old friends and kindle new relationships."
Over the course of the 2022-23 school calendar, ISBVI will also compete with NCASB schools in several other sports, including cheerleading, forensics, goalball, swimming and wrestling.
