Query Corner - Blue Water Lake
posted: Sept. 01, 2022
Have any readers heard of Blue Water Lake? The listing below is from 1948 (although a similar listing is in the 1938 table).
The size, 30 acres, and location listed means it must be Dawson Lake / Oxbow. We have never heard it called Blue Water Lake.
Spirit Lake, just north of Dawson Lake, was well defined in 1938 when Dawson Lake was just being dug, but it is only about 12 acres. Maybe it was called Blue Water Lake at one time?

Your editor took this picture of the lakes in Broad Ripple in 2003 when WIBC's Big John Gillis offered a plane ride. The White River surrounds them. The upper left lake is Spirit Lake, with the four condo buildings. The upper right lake is Dawson Lake / Oxbow. The lower lake is Winston Island Woods. The Monon Trail river bridge is in the lower middle, with the Westfield bridge above it. The dam, creating the canal, is to the right of the Westfield bridge. Glendale is at the top. The construction is The Reserve At Broad Ripple. The Indianapolis Art Center and OptiPark are in the lower right.
