This issue's Random Historic Photo is from Beverly Middaugh at Bright Ideas. It was taken during the Broad Ripple Sesquicentennial celebration in 1978. It was taken looking west on Broad Ripple Avenue just east of the Monon Trail [H7 on
map]. On the left you can see the Provincial Kitchen restaurant at 1001 Broad Ripple Avenue, where Cholita Taqueria is today. On the right is Allied Liquors, where Chipotle is now, and Village Pedlars, where Smallcakes is today. Red Wing Shoes was between Village Pedlars and the old location of Union Jack Pub (with the round globe lights hanging). It can't be made out in this photo, but I recognize the sign just beyond Union Jack Pub as the original home of Bright Ideas. Farther away on the left is the Walker Cleaners sign, where Subway was for years and Indy E Cigs is now.
Another interesting item in this old photo, there is a cigarette ad on the billboard. Those are banned today.
