Each year the American Legion requests each post submit nominations for various awards. Among these are the Law Enforcement and Firefighter of the Year awards. Post nominees compete at districts, district nominees then compete at state, and state nominees compete for the National Firefighter and Law Officer of the Year Awards.

On June 1st, 2022, Post #3 was happy to recognize our nominees for Firefighter of the Year and Law Officer of the Year.

Officer Tyler Colclazier, a Patrol Officer with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, North District was recognized as the post's Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. Captain Samuel Kraeszig, the Lead Training Officer at the Indianapolis Fire Department Training Academy, was recognized as the post's Firefighter of the Year.

They were selected from nominations submitted by their respective organizations.

Captain Kraeszig, additionally, was selected as the American Legion 11th District Firefighter of the Year, and will compete for the Department of Indiana award.
