The Broad Ripple Duck Race was back for 2022 and the weather was great. This is an annual fundraiser for the Broad Ripple Village Association. Crowds of onlookers gathered on June 5 near the Rainbow Bridge on Guilford. There were activities for all before the 4:30pm race. Kayakers (in-canal duck wranglers) waited under the Monon bridge. On-bridge duck wranglers dumped the 3000 or so rubber ducks into the canal. As long-time Broad Ripple Gazette readers will remember from our
multi-part canal history that the canal flows at about 8 million gallons a day (from the White River to the processing plant near downtown), and the ducks easily made their way to the finish line, with a few slaps of an oar to nudge some along.
The Broad Ripple merchants donated gift cards for the prizes. The 2022 winners were Duck #1077 Aubrey N., #1734 Ann H., and #512 Jesus H.
