Random Rippling - BRUMC Farewell Luncheon
posted: May 12, 2022
On Sunday, May 1, 2022, Broad Ripple United Methodist Church, 6185 Guilford Avenue [J5 on
map], held a farewell luncheon. On May 8th the church held its last Sunday service. This fall the church is expected to reopen in a partnership with St. Luke's United Methodist Church, which is located at 100 W 86th Street.
At the luncheon, there were tables filled with photos and memorabilia from the church's history. Many members spoke about how BRUMC became a part of their lives. There were stories of choirs and past performances, and weddings back in the day before the church was air conditioned and candles bent over in the heat.
BRUMC was started in 1852, with the current building constructed in 1953. Your editor's great grandfather, John E. Hague, who lived across the street, gave the eternal light for the new sanctuary.
We will continue to follow the progress of the transformation of BRUMC over the coming year.
