NEW MURAL AT 62ND AND ALLISONVILLE ROAD CELEBRATES ARTMIX, A LOCAL NON PROFIT ARTS ORGANIZATION
Bruce and Scott Westphal and family, former owners of The Great Frame Up picture frame stores in Indianapolis and current owners of the building at 62nd and Allisonville, are collaborating with ArtMix to create a new mural for the east side of their building.
The ArtMix mission is to transform the lives of people with disabilities through the creation of art. ArtMix is a statewide nonprofit organization that offers a variety of opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to engage the power of the arts as a means of education, creative self-expression, and personal and professional growth. In addition, ArtMix programs promote change in public perceptions and raise public awareness, emphasizing the abilities and accomplishments of people with disabilities. ArtMix programs are delivered by professional Teaching Artists, who are professional artists with specialties in at least one form of art (2-D, ceramics, music, yoga, drama/theatre, and dance/movement). ArtMix Teaching Artists create adaptable lesson plans that are inclusive for people of ALL abilities.
Bruce and Scott have believed in and contributed to ArtMix throughout the years. ArtMix has been one of their special affiliates and the east wall of their building is a perfect venue for displaying a mural. The two reached out to ArtMix and offered to promote their mission by showcasing a piece of their students artwork.
The mural, a supersized 3-D scan of a 10" X 20" ceramic piece created by participants in the Urban Artisans program, was installed Thursday, September 9, 2021.
