Poetic Thoughts - Colin Hay Fever - by C.W. Pruitt II

Colin Hay Fever

Colin Hay was my first musical hero. I grew up in the foothills of Eastern Kentucky. We were just a bunch of hillbillies, but everyone I knew had a cassette of Men At Work's Cargo. I feel grateful today that I was surrounded by people with such good taste in music. I thought about my buddies from Jr. High a lot on May 14 as Colin Hay played Birdy's at 71st and Keystone.
I was fortunate to make it to Colin Hay's show. He told lots of stories. He was freakin' hilarious, man, just hilarious. When he got around to playing, his songs oozed humanity. It is hard for me to think of a more beautiful artist.

After the show, there was a pretty long line for Colin. The couple behind me drove four hours from Southern Illinois just to see Colin Hay. They were very sweet and very big fans of Colin.
The woman snapped my picture with Colin when I got to him. He signed a CD and one of my drawings. He is quite nice and quite cool.
Yeah, man, I couldn't help thinking about my old chums from Grayson, Kentucky. They would have grooved on this show. (I think I may have grooved for them.)
