posted: Apr. 29, 2021

One thousand trees available during drive-thru tree pickup

AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), will celebrate Arbor Day by sponsoring the annual Indy Free Tree event to support ongoing sustainability efforts. AES will give away 1,000 free Black Gum trees on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to one per family.
What: Indy Free Tree Event
When: Friday, April 30, 2021 @ 11 a.m. - Mayor Joe Hogsett and AES President and CEO Kristina Lund will be attendance at 11 a.m.
Where: Riverside Park: 2420 E. Riverside Dr., Indianapolis
Following COVID-19 safety protocols, this year's event will be a drive-thru tree pickup. The trees will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. AES Indiana has worked with Riverside Park for the past three years, investing volunteer hours and resources.
In addition to Indy Free Tree, AES Indiana sponsors events and programs like Earth Day Indiana Festival, AES Indiana Mayor's Lunch for Parks, AES Indiana Project Greenspace and AES Indiana Trees for Tomorrow. AES Indiana is dedicated to working with the city of Indianapolis and other organizations to foster the preservation and protection of natural resources.
"The Indy Free Tree event is just one of the many ways AES Indiana is committed to protecting the environment in the communities where we live, work and play," said AES Indiana president and CEO Kristina Lund. "We continue to make decisions to meet the future needs of our customers with a conscious effort to balance the impact on the environment and affordability."
For the seventeenth year, AES Indiana is recognized as a Tree Line USA utility. Tree Line USA utilities must meet certain standards - training employees in quality tree-care practices, educating the public about planting trees for energy conservation and helping homeowners plant appropriate trees near utility lines - to be considered for the award.
Since AES Indiana became the title sponsor in 2008, Indy Free Tree has given away more than 12,000 trees. AES Indiana encourages all tree recipients to download its Right Tree Right Place brochure for tips on planting smart and with utilities in mind. Click for more information on Indy Free Tree.
