Letters to the Editor - Bill Malcolm
posted: Mar. 18, 2021

Note to our readers: Letters to the Editor are the opinions of our readers and not necessarily those of this paper.

Today's announcement by IndyParks that Broad Ripple Park Pool will not open is extremely disappointing. For 50 years, the pool has served as a community and city amenity where our city children could learn to swim, participate in swim teams, and more. The pool just got a new liner last summer and a new pool pump the year before. Our City residents need a place to cool off during the hot summer months. Worse, IndyParks spends its time on an unwanted and unnecessary intrusion onto 5 acres of Broad Ripple Park land to let Community Health Networks operate doctors' offices. With the COVID epidemic, is it really a good use of taxpayers money? (IndyParks will be paying $79,000 a month rent to Community Health.) This project should be put on hold pending a review of the impact of the pandemic on the need, if any, for a new family center in Broad Ripple Park.
