Letters From Readers - Linda Hartman - Remembering Kroger
posted: Nov. 05, 2020
Linda Hartman sent in this memory of when the Broad Ripple Kroger opened in 1954.
Alan,
Thought I would share a childhood memory of the BR Kroger.
I remember the day it opened as my family and a group of neighbors all walked to the store (we lived at 60th and Guilford). I was 7 yrs. old and my sister and other neighborhood children were in baby strollers. Upon entering the store, every woman was given a long-stemmed red rose. I recall the mothers commenting that this new grocery was much nicer than the Standard Grocery right next door.
Sorry to see this store close. It has been a landmark for over 65 years.
Linda (Stenberg) Hartman
