The poem below I wrote around the time of Obama's inauguration. I was feeling quite hopeful, but at the same time I was harboring melancholy for the American Experience. So many have had the opportunity to flourish here, to grow and realize their dreams. Yet other individuals and groups have been hammered down with crushing oppression.
