July Zoning Meeting
by Alan Hague
posted: Jul. 30, 2020

The July public meeting of the Broad Ripple Village Association (BRVA) Land Use and Development (LUD) committee was held virtually due to COVID. Attendees requested a link to join. There were three audience attendees at the meeting. This was the first meeting since the May meeting that was held at The Hatch. There was one item on the agenda, in bold below.
1) The Line Urban Flats on Monon, 6364 Westfield Blvd., Amanda Waldrup with A-1 Expeditors, LLC seeking required signage plan approval for permit requests. (6:10-6:30 p.m.)
This request is to place the three legally-allowed signs on the under-construction apartments at the old Rogers Pool site at 64th and Westfield Boulevard. While the signs for The Line Urban Flats are small, the committee strongly stated that it needs to see the complete sign plan before full approval can occur. The petitioner stated that this first request was for just three signs because three are legally allowed without any need for a sign variance from the City of Indianapolis. This would allow the developer to place a few signs on the building now to start branding. The developer would follow up in the near future with a sign variance to place the remaining signs on the buildings.

The three signs included two round 6 foot blade signs and one round wall-mounted sign high up on the southeast corner of the north building (see below).

A vote was taken and the committee voted to support this request with modifications. Only the two blade signs were approved, not the wall sign. The wall sign can be presented again before the committee as part of the final building signage plan that will require a variance of the sign ordinance with the City and another visit before the BRVA Land Use committee.
The next public meeting of the LUD committee is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25 at 6:00 P.M., location TBD.
