This ad for Polar Ice and Fuel ran back in 1950.
The ice company had a Cash-and-Carry station with a 24-hour coin-operated ice vending box at 6315 N. Winthrop Avenue. The address for this property was later changed to 1002 Broad Ripple Avenue [H6 on
map and currently, a commercial building is there with Chipotle Mexican Grill, InnovateMap and Odyssey.
Historically, this plot of land was been the jail for the Town of Broad Ripple, and the site of ice houses used to cut and store ice cut from the White River in the winters. For decades this was the site of Colonial Liquors and later United Package Liquor.
