The Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association (MKNA) All-Neighborhood meeting was held on January 30th at Liter House, 5301 N. Winthrop Avenue [PP24 on map]. Close to 100 were in attendance. Liter House provided refreshments and many attendees also ordered dinner. MKNA executive director Chelsea Manning opened the meeting at 6pm.

MKNA spans three City-County Council districts and all three Councillors spoke at the meeting - Keith Potts, John Barth, and Duke Oliver.

John Lingenfelter from HUNI (Historic Urban Neighborhoods of Indianapolis) spoke about the work being done to amend House Bill 1060. He said that bill was introduced to ban historic district protections that would dictate style and aesthetics. While that part of the bill was successfully removed, Lindenfelter expressed concern that it might be placed in another bill and urged homeowners to remain vigilant and contact their representatives.

Chelsea presented achievement awards to MKNA volunteers Molly Seidel and Jim Garrittson.

Nick Colby spoke about the 2019 accomplishments of MKNA.

The Can Lady, Mary Stumpp, gave an update on her aluminum can collections and donations to local schools. She also mentioned a new initiative to add house numbers to the alley side of all properties. This makes it easier for fire, police, and other emergency officials to locate a property.

Chelsea announced that anyone who joins or renews a membership with MKNA in February will receive a $10 gift certificate to a restaurant in the Eat Your Way Through MKNA happening February 23 through 29.
