Public Notices - Lawrence Branch Library to Temporarily Close for Renovation
posted: Dec. 19, 2019

Beginning on Sunday, January 5, 2020, the Lawrence Branch of The Indianapolis Public Library, located at 7898 Hague Road, will temporarily close for its first major renovation since the 13,500-square-foot branch opened in 1983.
When the Lawrence Branch reopens, visitors will see an updated entrance, new group study and tutoring areas, more windows for natural lighting, and improved access to technology. The $1.5 million project also will include new public restrooms, numerous outlets for charging stations, and an interior that features engaging new spaces for children, teens and adults.
Most improvements will result from suggestions received during a series of community input meetings hosted earlier in 2019 by project architects from Rowland Design of Indianapolis.
As of Thursday, December 19, materials that have been placed on hold for pick-up at the Lawrence Branch will be sent instead to the Glendale Branch, 6101 N. Keystone Avenue. Patrons can designate any other IndyPL location as their pick up site by logging into their Library account or by asking a Lawrence Branch staff member for assistance before the closing. For the duration of the Lawrence Branch project, a book drop will be located at Lawrence North High School, adjacent to the Library at 7802 Hague Road, inside the school's main entrance and outside the building by Door #2.
In addition to other branches, patrons can visit the Library 24/7 at www.indypl.org to access the Library's catalog; download and stream e-books, e-audiobooks, music and movies; and utilize over 100 research tools.
The Lawrence Branch and other capital projects identified in the Library's current strategic plan are funded from individual bonds approved by the Indianapolis City-County Council totaling over $58 million and assessed with no increase in the Library's current debt service tax rate.
