Re-Cycling I-69 Poem

In 1999, I wrote a poem about the proposed 1-69 extension. I made a few copies for my friends at the Hoosier Environmental Council and kept a few copies for myself. Eight years later, the poem is still relevant. Below is a copy of the poem about the issue that won't go away:

Prayer for 1-69 Extension

Farmland
        Will be paved
Wildlife
        Will be destroyed
Churches
        Will be displaced
In favor of
        Strip Malls
Our reverence for
        God's creation
        is outweighed by
Our obsession
        With
        Money
        &
        A Desire for
A Quicker Route
        To Evansville-
Lord Have Mercy
        On Our Souls
