Random Rippling - The downtown canal drained (from BRG v16n01 p. 4)

Canal update to the Gazette Canal History Series
The downtown portion of the canal has been drained again for cleaning. The last cleaning was around 2007. The Gazette discovered several new inlets (and outlets) in the canal during the draining. In addition to the one reported in installment #19 under the Ohio Street bridge, there are openings to pipes south of the New York Street Bridge (see below) and in the Ohio Street basin. Gazette readers will remember that the downtown portion of the canal follows the original path of the Central Canal, but it is now more of a pool, fed by ground water from OneAmerica and the State Office Building.
