July Land Use meeting
by Alan Hague
posted: Aug. 03, 2018

There were two items on the agenda (in bold below) for the July public meeting of the Broad Ripple Village Association's (BRVA) Land Use and Development committee. There was no June meeting.
A. 7002 Westfield Boulevard, Michael Rabinowitch with Wooden McLaughlin regarding the rezoning and variances of the property for additional apartment buildings next to the existing Shore Acres. Property actually in the Nora district and the BRVA has previously shown interest.
This is the second appearance before the board for this property, but the first for this petitioner.
The proposal is for Shore Acres, the apartment complex at 70th and Westfield Boulevard, to expand onto the two-acre property to the south that had been a private home.

The expansion will be a single three-story building with 48 units. The Westfield Boulevard curb cut for the driveway of the existing house will be removed, restricting access to the main Shore Acres entrance. The new construction will include one and two bedroom units and will have sufficient parking.

The committee generally was in favor of the project, but does not cover areas outside of the BRVA official region. This project is in the area covered by the Nora Community Council (NCC). It was brought before the BRVA committee because of the project's proximity to Broad Ripple, being on the south end of the Nora region. The BRVA committee agreed to send a letter of support downtown if NCC decides to support the petition.
B. 6416 Ferguson Street, Kadeana Daniels owner of Kicasso Sneaker Art Bar regarding applying for an alcoholic beverage permit, beer and wine only for the adult painting classes on canvas sneakers.
This request is for a two-way liquor license (beer and wine) for a paint-your-own sneaker store at 6416 Ferguson Street. Kicasso (see front page story) wishes to offer beer and wine at sneaker painting events. The committee agreed to support this petition before the Alcoholic Beverage Commission hearing.
The next public meeting of the Land Use and Development committee is planned for Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Northminster Presbyterian Church starting at 6 pm.
