Buzzing Around Town

Hello darlings! Is anyone else obsessed with the royal wedding? I'm convinced that I wasn't invited because Harry and Meghan knew that I'd have a hard time getting my Red Key shift covered. And the wedding falls on my birthday so there is yet another reason to have champagne for breakfast.

Emmet Cohen Trio
Sunday, May 20, 2018
The Jazz Kitchen
5377 N. College Ave - 21+, doors open 5:00, show 6:30, $20
Jazz pianist and composer, Emmet Cohen, will bring his "nimble touch, measured stride and warm harmonic vocabulary," as described by DownBeat magazine. He is often praised as one of his generation's pivotal artistic figures.
Not only is he a wonderful musician, but he presents jazz performance lectures through the YoungArts Foundation and Lincoln Center's "Jazz for Young People" program. He is Hammond B-3 organist-in-residence at Harlem's Smoke jazz club. A Suzuki piano student at age three, Cohen holds jazz piano degrees from the Manhattan School of Music (M.M.) and the University of Miami (B.M.). He was previously a finalist in the American Pianists Awards in both 2011 and 2015, and he was also a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition in 2011. Impressive stuff for a man in his 20s!
As always, you can enjoy a delicious meal and libations as you listen to the fabulous music.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
