Casba transforms into The Ambassador Lounge
From Bill Ficca, BR restaurateur:
"Well, after 32 years (at least we think it has been 32 years ) we have officially converted The Casba to the "Ambassador Lounge".
The "AL" will feature extensive live music in a small intimate setting that we believe has been lacking in the area since "The Patio" closed.
We've added seating and some other touch ups with more on the way."

Let IndyParks know you want an outdoor pool
If you read my last column (and IndyParks response) you may be confused.
As a matter of fact, the current outdoor pool at Broad Ripple Park does not appear anywhere in the 3 versions of the draft Master Plan.
This is because IndyParks says the pool is beyond repair.
While they are considering a "splash park" and indoor pool in the scenarios, the fact remains that an outdoor pool is not apparently being considered. Period.
To find out more, you can stop by the Project Studio at the Family Center or go to www.broadrippleparkmasterplan.com. Or go to the meetings May 2, 2018, and May 23, 2018.
Editors note: As stated to me personally and in the previous issue of the BRG, IndyParks says that none of the plans are final at this stage. The plans indicate "aquatics" that could be many things. There are many pool configurations that could end up in the final plan.

Art Walk and After Party Scheduled
The BRVA Spring Art Walk on May 11, 2018, is coming up and the Indianapolis Art Center has scheduled an After Party.
The Indianapolis Art Center will host a free community party from 8-9:30 pm after the Broad Ripple Village Association's (BRVA) annual Spring Art Walk.
The party will feature food and refreshments, and a music set curated and performed with accordion and guitar played over beats by DJ La Buena Onda, Gerardo Ruiz Tovar, from Indy's popular band, Sweet Poison Victim. Beer & wine will also be available for purchase.
Starting at 5 pm, BRVA Art Walk participants can pick up a map and brochure at the BRVA office located at 6323 Guilford Avenue.
The map will lead walkers through different Broad Ripple destinations featuring art, entertainment and refreshments. Each destination will provide an opportunity to get a "passport stamp" for a prize drawing taking place at 9 pm during the Indianapolis Art Center community party.
Also coming up at the Art Center is the Broad Ripple Art Fair which runs on Saturday, May 19, 2018, 11 am to 7 pm & Sunday, May 20, 2018, 11 am to 6 pm.
Tickets are available in person at the Indianapolis Art Center and online at www.IndplsArtCenter.org/BRAF.

New Executive Director of BRVA outlines vision and priorities
Colleen Fanning started April 1 as the new Executive Director of the Broad Ripple Village Association.
I sat down with her on April 6 to learn more about the group's priorities for the Village in the coming months and her vision for Broad Ripple.
She said the group was focused on re-engaging members, both residential and business.
Fanning noted the Village has a lot of big, amazing projects coming on line and she sees a resurgence in the Village: the Red Line bus rapid transit, the proposed RiverWalk, and the Broad Ripple Avenue beautification project which will be transformative for the Village.
The goal for Broad Ripple Avenue, for example, is create a mini Georgia Avenue by adding street trees, decorative lighting, expanding the sidewalk, making it revenue producing, and more.
Regarding re-purposing of the soon to be closed Broad Ripple High School, BRVA is doing advocacy on the issue working with Indianapolis Public Schools.
