Buzzing Around Town - by Nora Spitznogle

Buzzing Around Town

Once again there is snow on the ground as I write this. Will winter ever end? The opening day of Spring for me is Record Store Day and it's almost here. We're lucky enough to have two great independent record stores in our neighborhood. Read on for details.
Record Store Day 2018
Saturday, April 21, 2018
I got overwhelmed trying to pick just a few things to highlight for Record Store Day (RSD) in the neighborhood. Visit both store's websites for further details. Make sure you get to bed early on Friday - you're going to want to have all of your energy stored up for the day.
Indy CD & Vinyl
806 Broad Ripple Avenue
Sat. doors open at 8 am - Sun. doors open at 9 am
all-ages, free
Indy CD & Vinyl is spreading the fun out over two days this year. As always, they'll have coffee for the early-birds on Saturday and goody bags, door prizes, and ticket giveaways. They will be letting people in the shop just five at a time to flip through the limited-release RSD offerings. Download Indy CD & Vinyl's app (available through Android and the Apple store) for the chance for even more fun and to be notified of flash sales. There will be beer available (with ID, of course) from Dogfish Head and Average Joe's. Food from Kuma's Corner and Union Jack Pub will be offered. There will be a Kid Zone sponsored by Girls Rock, Inc.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
