Parks Master Plan Meeting Schedule For March 7, 2018
IndyParks is developing a new Master Plan for Broad Ripple Park and needs your input. The first meeting will be March 7, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m at the Broad Ripple High School. Additional meetings will be on April 4, May 2, and May 23, 2018.

New Flood Plain Legislation To Help Rocky Ripple
Senate Bill 386 would help Rocky Ripple according to Jim Polito of Save the Warfleigh group. The bill authorizes the Indianapolis metropolitan development commission to adopt an ordinance designating an area as a flood control improvement district to capture incremental property tax revenue within the district to be used for the construction, replacement, repair, maintenance, or improvement of flood control works.

BRVA Urges Meetings On Library Re-Location, Consideration Of Broad Ripple High School Building
The BRVA has sent a formal letter to Indianapolis Public Library CEO Jackie Nytes asking her to reconsider the high school location for the relocation of the Glendale Branch Library and encouraged her to conduct public input sessions regarding the new location. The BRVA offered to assist publicizing such meetings through our social media channels.

What Time Is It In Indiana? I'll Drink To That
Just when I thought our sometimes backward (but entertaining) state couldn't top the never ending "liquor-sales-on-Sunday" debate (sales may start March 4), I now learn the Indiana Senate Homeland and Security Committee of the state legislature has passed a resolution to study which time zone Indiana should be in.
We have been observing daylight time since 2005 and all but 12 counties are in the eastern time zone.
Is it me or do we just like to debate things ad nauseum in the Hoosier State?
If we were on Central time, it would be dark at 4:20 p.m. in the winter (but lighter earlier). (Yes I forgot to mention that Gary and Northwest Indiana and Evansville are on Central time. And yes we were on Central time until 1965 (albeit with no daylight time except in "Fast Time" counties down south.)
As they say when the plane lands, "We have just landed in Indianapolis. Please set your clocks back 20 years."
Anyone for debating cold beer sales in the grocery store?

60 Free TV Channels in the Ripple
I just got a new antenna for my over-the-air broadcast TV. I now get 60 channels instead of 30 (all for free). My favorite is "Movies". Also good are THIS TV. One channel shows a lot of game shows. Another shows history ("Decades"). You can't beat being a cord cutter. Why pay more? Plus it is in High Definition.

Get Out Of The Ripple-Spring Has Sprung In Washington
Spring officially begins in Washington, DC on March 1. I was recently there to see the new paintings of the former President and First Lady at the National Portrait Gallery. They have paintings of all 43 or so former Presidents and a free tour to tell you all about them. You will find them on E street near the Gallery Place Metro stop. Grab a bite in the great Café in the atrium. For lodging, I liked the Comfort Inn on 13th near Mass. Avenue (weekend rates from $119). I took the non stop on American Airlines to Reagan National for just $59 each way.(Avoid the crowded Southwest terminal at all costs.)
You can also take the Cardinal Amtrak train 3 days a week which goes through the beautiful New River Gorge. Also in DC is the cherry blossom festival starts this month as well. You can't beat DC for a long weekend.

Upcoming
March 1 and March 2 (12-5) and March 3, 2018 (9-4) - House plant sale at The Greenhouse at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 7725 N. College Avenue: Succulents, baskets, geraniums, student art work, and more.
