Hotel expands, adds event space
Hotel Broad Ripple has added 4 new rooms in a cottage at 6516 Westfield next to the original building [C5 on map]. The boutique hotel has also opened an event space next door at 6508 Westfield in the office building. They had an open house on November 2, 2017, to showcase the new space. Like me, I am sure they will be glad when Westfield Boulevard re-opens.

It's open enrollment time
Do you lack health insurance and are under age 65? If yes, go to www.healthcare.gov to enroll. It's very simple. You estimate your income, say if you smoke or not, and pick a plan that's right for you (bronze, silver, or gold). There are no questions about your health or if you have any pre-existing conditions.
Yes, premiums are up and choices are down (just 2 providers in Marion County) but subsidies are up so you may actually pay less for health insurance this year than last. Yes, I'm talking about the Affordable Care Act government-sponsored health plan.
Think it's cheaper to skip insurance and pay the penalty for not having health insurance? Think again. A fall or accident can land you in the hospital with thousands of dollars in medical bills billed at the full retail rate (not the negotiated insurance rate). Open enrollment started November 1 and ends earlier this year (December 15, 2017) so enroll today. Remember you may be eligible for a subsidy such that depending on which plan you pick your out of pocket cost will be affordable.
Over 65? You need to pick a Medicare plan instead.
Have health insurance at work? Again, you are already covered.
Eligible for Medicaid or children's health? You can apply for these separate programs all year.

Graffiti in the Ripple
Is it me or is there a lot of graffiti popping up? A lot was present on the Monon Trail Bridge over the White River. Someone had painted over part of it with gray paint although there was quite a bit on the sidewalk itself.
