Buzzing Around Town

Hello darling readers, I hope you all had a chance to get to the Indiana State Fair. If not, mark your calendars for August 3 - 19, 2018. In the meantime....

The Last Four Digits Record Release Show
Saturday, August 19
State Street Pub
243 N. State Street - 21+, 8 pm - 1 am, $6
This promises to be an epic show! 35 years after the synth/wave band Last Four Digits recorded Don't Move, it is being released on limited edition clear vinyl and on CD. The original 1980s members have reunited and are still rocking hard. Dirtbike and Louie Louie are also on the bill.

Gordon Bonham Trio
Friday, August 25
Flatwater
832 E. Westfield Blvd - 21+ (patio), 8 - 11 pm, free
The back deck of Flatwater Restaurant is a great place to eat dinner, enjoy a cocktail, and hear great music. Gordon Bonham's mix of Delta blues, Chicago grit, and swing will have you dancing on the deck.

Chreece 3
Saturday, August 26
Fountain Square2
all ages & 21+ venues, 4 pm - 2 am, $15 - $28
This is the third year for the hip-hop festival and I'm just learning how the name was derived. Cheers + Peace = Chreece.
Chreece spreads the musical love over six venues:
The Hoosier Dome (all-ages)
Square Cat Vinyl (all-ages)
Fountain Square Plaza (all-ages, no ticket required)
The Hi-Fi (21+)
White Rabbit Cabaret (21+)
Pioneer (21+)

There will be over 50 emcees and collectives, a boatload of DJs and producers, exclusive merchandise and more. Chreese is a benefit for Musical Family Tree, an nonprofit dedicated to spreading and preserving Indiana music.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
