Past president Kent Springer gave an example, "When Louie's Wine Dive was in the midst of remodeling, there was a torrential rain. Broad Ripple Avenue flooded and the whole restaurant got flooded. We met with the Department of Public Works (DPW) downtown and convinced then to do something about Broad Ripple Avenue."
The DPW schedule for sewer work in the area was five years out. The BRVA was able to change that and get an immediate inspection.
"DPW spent a week cleaning the sewers along College and Broad Ripple Avenue, and since that's been done there hasn't been any flooding on Broad Ripple Avenue," explained Kent.
Next, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Chief Bryan Roach spoke on the focus of the department to reduce violence and to improve the department's relationship to the community.
IMPD North District Commander Joshua Barker detailed the latest crime stats for North District (roughly bounded by Michigan Road, 30th Street, Fall Creek, all south of the 96th Street). Most of the crimes stats dropped and all are lower than the district's average since 2007. (All meeting slides available at www.broadripplegazette.com)
