Tenth Annual Record Store Day
Saturday April 22, 2017
It's Record Store Day time - and the tenth annual one to boot! You've heard me say this - for about ten years now - that Record Store Day is the sure sign of spring for me. Not only are there exclusive RSD deals and fabulous in-store concerts, the great conversations happening on the sidewalk outside of the stores and the sense of community makes me uber-proud to live in this neighborhood. A little trivia - according to Record Store Day rules, the stores cannot open earlier than 8:00 am - not that folks won't be lined up well before then. Read on for details of the events in Broad Ripple and beyond.

Indy CD & Vinyl
806 Broad Ripple Avenue
all-ages, free, 8am - 9pm
Indy CD & Vinyl will open at 8:00 am and have all of the special releases available. They'll have giveaways all day, kiddo music from 10:00 am - noon along with face painting and crafts.
Nacho Mama's food truck will be on-site and Dogfish Head beer will be available in the tent behind the store.

Music lineup (behind the store):

They will start their annual sidewalk sale at 10:00 am with Rusty Redenbacher and Mr. Kinetik spinning the music. There will be Upland beer, SoBro Café coffee, and La Margarita food available. The behind the store music starts at noon:
Noon: UH

2:00 pm: Richard Edwards
3:00 pm: Sedcairn Archives

Irvington Vinyl
9 Johnson Avenue
all-ages, free, 8 am - 5:00 pm
Irvington Vinyl will open at 8:00 and have special releases available. They are teaming up with their neighbors, State Street Pub, for music and food - I see an "Electric Breakfast" on the menu. Affordable Hi Fi will also be offering special deals on Music Hall Turntables.

Their bar will be open (beer/wine), coffee, Long's Donuts, and GOMEZ BBQ will also be available for purchase. They will be taking over the alley behind the shop for music from noon - 10:00 pm.

Karma Records
Karma East: 21 N. Post Road
Karma West: 3802 N. High School Road
Karma N.W.: 3532 W. 86th Street
There weren't any details about Karma Record's RSD activities available at press time, but I wanted to be sure and include them since they are Indianapolis' oldest record store, opening in 1970.
Their Facebook page indicates that they will have Record Store Day special releases, but I'm not sure if that will be at all stores or just one.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
