Holiday Sing-A-Long with Wendy Reed
Tuesday, December 20, 2016
The Jazz Kitchen
5377 N. College Ave - 21+, $5, doors 5 pm, show 7 pm
If you haven't met Wendy Reed, you're seriously missing out. Not only is she wildly talented, always up on pop culture, has a wicked and bawdy sense of humor, she's a lovely person.
She's been leading this fun sing-a-long for years and I'm never able to go and this year is no exception, but you all should go. It promises to be a wonderful Christmas week evening. Enjoy!

Indy's Winter Solstice Celebration
Wednesday, December 21, 2016
Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis
615 W. 43rd Street
all-ages, free, doors 6:30 pm, event 7 pm
The solstice celebration is a family-friendly, non-denominational event that celebrates the return of the sun. It's an evening of stories and songs that range from meditative to raucous. Bring finger food to share.

The Breakes and Christian Taylor
Friday, December 30, 2016
Indy CD & Vinyl
806 Broad Ripple Ave
all-ages, free, 6:30 pm
Family Tree and NUVO are hosting this great show. They've paired the up-and-coming rock 'n' roll trio, The Breakes, with one of my favorite songwriters, Christian Taylor.
The Breakes are a young rock trio that produce a big fun sound. Every time I hear Christian Taylor sing, I wonder why the heck he's not famous.

New Year's Eve
There are plenty of ways to celebrate in the neighborhood. The Jazz Kitchen is hosting two seatings for the Walter Beasley show, The Vogue is featuring a Boy Band review. I'll be working at the Red Key. I promise not to sing if you swing by.
I'm looking forward to another great year of music and neighborly things! See you then!

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
